Amy Peterson

About Me

I'm a passionate educator and a dedicated reading tutor who teaches students to read using the Orton-Gillingham Approachā€” a time-tested, research-backed method for teaching reading designed to meet the unique needs of individuals with dyslexia or other language-based learning differences. This approach emphasizes direct, explicit, systematic, and multisensory instruction, which is essential for developing strong reading and writing skills. With over 10 years of teaching experience and 8 years of Orton-Gillingham expertise, Iā€™m well equipped to help your child become a strong, confident reader.

Tailored Approach

I understand that each learner is unique, and one size does not fit all when it comes to reading instruction. My personalized approach ensures that every lesson is customized to meet the specific needs of each student, providing targeted support to help them reach their full reading potential.

Certified Orton-Gillingham Practitioner

Iā€™m fully certified and earned my credentials through extensive experience working under master-level tutors for several years. I began my career as a learning support teacher and later became a reading interventionist with my local school district. Driven by a commitment to finding the best methods to support students who were behind grade level in reading, I pursued advanced education and certification.

In addition to my Masters in Teaching and special education endorsement, I hold the following Orton-Gillingham certifications:

  • Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist, Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI), 2022, a subsidiary of The International Dyslexia Association (IDA)

  • Certified Level, Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA), 2022

  • Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist, Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI), 2019

  • Associate Level, Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA), 2019

  • Certified Orton-Gillingham Instructor, Institute of Multisensory Education (IMSE), 2017
